Vocational Education Reports, 1936–1941

1936-1941

This series contains the annual narrative reports of the school's vocational departments, including cleaning and tailoring as well as mill and cabinet. These reports document the instructors' training and experience, the courses of study, the type of equipment, quarters, and training offered, student enrollment, graduates, and follow-up records on individual students. A narrative report for the girls' vocational training department is included, as is one for the boys' department. Various other reports (e.g. "Rural Home Life Program" and "A Tentative Outline for the Senior Household Science Department") are also included, along with a list of the students, a list of the administrators, and some circular letters from the Office of Indian Affairs. Of particular note, this series contains a 1930 survey of the Sherman Institute and detailed data on its divisions done by the Board of Education of Los Angeles, a 1931 report by a conference to suggest policies for the administration of vocational education in Indian schools, and a brief 1934 report entitled "Public Schools and the Federal Indian Service."
